Story Reno Studio

< return to Literary Programs

The Story Reno Studio is a 12-week intensive literary development series for new generation writers living and working on the margins. The series is open to writers working in any literary discipline who want to evolve a rough draft (or even an idea) into a polished manuscript. Writers will receive comprehensive mentorship in developing story, character, voice, plot, and style, and will have the opportunity to have their work constructively critiqued, and to critique the work of other writers in a supportive environment.

In addition to group workshops, offsite editorial and developmental consultation will be available.

ELIGIBILITY:

The Story Reno Studio is for writers who:

  • Are 15 - 29 years old;

  • Identify as living and working on the margins, and experience barriers to pursuing their literary careers;

  • Reside in the Greater Toronto Area;

  • Have little or no publishing history, and have not received funding for their work;

  • Are dedicated to their literary practice and are able to commit to the entire 12-week process;

  • Have a rough draft, a work in progress, or an idea for a literary piece that they wish to develop over the 12-week process.

*The Story Reno Studio is intended for writers working in literary disciplines. This includes fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, personal essays, memoir, stage or radio drama, spoken word, and intersectional or genre-defying literature. (No opinion pieces, academic articles, joke books, calendars, etc.)
